Celebrating the Pomo Fish Basket

A special First Friday celebrates the installation of a commissioned Pomo Fish Basket sculpture in the Museum’s Wild Gardens.  Dry Creek Pomo/Bodega Miwok artist Bruce Smith will be on hand to discuss the inspiration and process that went into making this six-foot long sculpture out of steel, intricately simulating traditional weaving techniques of Pomo basket makers.  Brief remarks occur at 6:00. And from 5:30 to 7:30, bites of a traditional Pomo salmon and seaweed dish will be available to try.  Evening includes weaving activities for youth and families and the Mendocino County Resource Conservation District will be on hand with information about watershed health and stream restoration.  Free and open to the public.
