Primarily a fiction writer, he has also worked in mediums from poetry and criticism to professional grant writing and opera. Burton has a Masters in Creative Writing & English Literature from San Francisco State University. His short stories, poetry, book reviews, interviews, and essays have appeared in a variety of small literary and professional journals. A passionate consumer of and advocate for the arts, Burton launched a museum career over 21 years ago with his path leading to the Grace Hudson Museum in 2017. For Writers Read, he plans to share a new short story and perhaps a poem or two, or other short work. His feature reading will be from 7:00 to 8:00, followed by an open mic from 8:00 to 9:00.

Writers Read has been happening in Ukiah since 1999. Including poetry, spoken word, stories, and an occasional song, the program combines a reading by a featured author, followed by an hour of open mic. Writers Read is sponsored in part by Poets & Writers, and by grants from the James Irvine Foundation and the Hearst Foundation. an anonymous local writer, Colored Horse Studios, the Poet Laureate Committee of Ukiah, The Grace Hudson Museum and donations.

Please Note: Writers Read usually happens on the last Thursday of most every month. In November that date falls on Thanksgiving, so the program has been moved to the third Thursday. For additional information about Writers Read, contact Michael Riedell at innisfree@pacific.net.
