Writers Read, Featuring Blake More

Coast poet Blake More will be the featured reader for the September Writers Read. A resident of the Mendocino Coast since the late 90s, Blake is a healing artist with many creative voices and expressions, including writing, video, performance, dance, costume, functional art (such as large murals and hand-painted, daily-use art cars), and teaching. She hosts a monthly radio show called B More Now on KZYX&Z FM, and also works with California Poets in the Schools and the California Arts Council to deliver creative arts instruction in K-12 classrooms around the Northern California region. Her freelance writings have appeared in dozens of magazines, including Yoga Journal, Utne Reader and Tokyo Time Out. Blake has written two non-fiction books, one fiction book, and three books of poetry. For an extensive list and exploration of Blake More’s creative healing world please visit her website: snakelyone.com.

Blake will go on at 7:00 PM. Open mic follows from 8:00 to 9:00. Writers Read is always free, though donations gladly accepted.

Writers Read happens on the last Thursday of almost every month and has been happening in Ukiah since 1999. This reading series is sponsored in part by Poets & Writers through grants from the James Irvine Foundation and the Hearst Foundation. Additional support provided by an anonymous local writer, Colored Horse Studios, the Poet Laureate Committee of Ukiah, The Grace Hudson Museum and donations.
