  • Grace Hudson Museum & Sun House 431 South Main Street Ukiah, CA 95482 USA (map)

Writers Read kicks off its 2023 season with poet Gordon Leon Black, who is the author of the chapbook, Low Tech in the Great Northwest, from Pygmy Forest Press. He is included in the anthology, The Western Edge: Thirty One Poets, and was a featured reader in the Poetry Flash series at Cody's Bookstore in Berkeley. Black also publishes in local journals, including the Anderson Valley Advertiser, and joins in broadcast poetry with the radio journal RhythmRunningRiver. You also may recognize his voice as the host of Wonderous World of Music, a classical music program, Friday mornings on KZYX&Z radio. Black is a longtime resident of the Mendocino coast, has produced many poetry events over the years, and is an Instructor in Philosophy at Santa Rosa Junior College.

Black will take the lectern a little after 7:00 PM and will be followed by Open Mic at 8:00. Writers Read has been happening in Ukiah since 1999, and occurs on the last Thursday of almost every month. The program focuses on poetry, spoken word, short stories, song, and expository prose.
