Writers Read: Ukiah's Literary Salon

  • Grace Hudson Museum & Sun House 431 South Main Street Ukiah, CA 95482 USA (map)

The featured reader for March will be Devreaux Baker, selected last fall as Mendocino County’s first ever poet laureate. Devreaux has published five books of poetry and has been published in numerous magazines and journals including The Crab Orchard Review, ZYZZYVA, Persimmon Tree, and Poetry in Flight/Poesia En Velo. She has been the recipient of numerous fellowships from Taos, New Mexico to Edinburgh, Scotland as well as many poetry awards both domestic and international. Devreaux has taught in Mendocino County with the California Poets in the Schools program, and produced The Voyager's Radio Program of Original Student Writing for KZYX radio. (Devreaux was originally scheduled to read at the November 2024 Writers Read, which was canceled due to a major rain storm.)

Writers Read has been happening in Ukiah since 1999, and occurs on the last Thursday of almost every month. The program focuses on poetry, spoken word, short stories, song, and expository prose. The evening begins with a featured reader and then is followed by an hour of open mic starting around 8:00. There is no fee, but donations are warmly welcome.
