Nancy Bavor, the executive director of the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles, presents an illustrated talk on the cultural forces that led to the emergence of art quilts, highlighting some pioneering California artists who blazed the trail for contemporary quilt makers.
Bavor co-authored the 2018 book, Art Quilts Unfolding: 50 Years of Innovation, and co-curated the accompanying exhibition, Layered & Stitched: Fifty Years of Innovative Art, that will have its West Coast premier at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles from mid-April to mid-July, 2020. She holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from Northwestern University and a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in the History of Textiles/Quilt Studies emphasis.
