Lynne the Poetician will be the featured reader at this month’s Writers Read program. Lynne the started writing at an early age. Her educational background is in communications, film and video. This path led her to poetry. She developed into a performance poet, known for longer memorized pieces. From the heart, yes. She has performed her poetry in bookstores, churches, schools, museums, and other venues. She says, “When performing my poetry, memorizing adds to the quality of my delivery. As a writer my goal is to make others feel honored and validated regardless of our differences. Writing always helps me become a better human being.”
Writers Read happens on the last Thursday of most every month and has been happening in Ukiah since 1999. Events focus on poetry, spoken word, and stories, combining a reading by a featured author, then followed by an hour of open mic. Writers Read is sponsored in part by Poets & Writers, and by grants from the James Irvine Foundation and the Hearst Foundation. Additional support provided by an anonymous local writer, Dan Barth, Michael Riedell, Bill “Jabez” Churchill, the Poet Laureate Committee of Ukiah, the Grace Hudson Museum, and donations.
