This month featuring Annette Makino
The June version of Writers Read will feature Annette Makino, an award-winning haiku poet and artist who combines her poems with Japanese-inspired watercolor paintings and collages. Her first full-length book, Water and Stone: Ten Years of Art and Haiku, was recently honored in the Haiku Society of America Merit Book Awards. She is a graduate of Ukiah High School and Stanford University. Makino will share a series of funny, wry poems on modern life, show slides of her haiga (art combined with haiku), and read a couple of autobiographical sketches from her book. She will also have cards and prints for sale. See makinostudios.com for a gallery of her work. To ensure the protection of all attendees, Writers Reads asks that people do not attend if you have not been fully vaccinated or if you feel in any way ill.
Writers Read has been happening in Ukiah since 1999, and occurs on the last Thursday of almost every month. The program focuses on poetry, spoken word, short stories, song, and expository prose.
