The barest fraction. The line of a curve. The grain of an individual piece of wood. Friendly edges. Paying attention to these details with your eye, not your ruler, are part of what define Krenvoian woodworking. James Krenov and his ideas of woodworking were the foundation of the College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program. Over 40 years later, the institution — now known as the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking — remains remarkably unchanged in its approach. Students still learn how to sharpen their tools incredibly well and focus deeply on the singular piece of wood with which they are working. This exhibition features fine woodworking from James Krenov, school instructors and students, and also shares the unique story of this venerated school.
Deep Roots, Spreading Branches was made possible by the generosity of lead sponsor the Krenov Foundation, the Sun House Guild and Museum Members, the Krenov School of Fine Woodworking, Mendocino College, and Lie-Nielson Toolworks.
